9/9/2014 DBs Dailies: T21M@Portlock Bch, Nani@RI, Buster@BH&SB, U/U@SC, Pohaku@Sec, Rocky@Kaimana, U/U@2H,Waikiki

I got a call from Hanauma Bay posse member, Annie at 0731 reporting an animal on the beach just down from her home on Portlock Beach. When I arrived at 0740 I found T21M snoozin’ on the beach. Her dad advised that T21M had arrived at 1800 last night. I cordoned him off and did an assessment of his newly acquired wounds, seen at SB on Sunday. Only one of his wounds is readily visible, on his left side under jaw. There is pink meat showing, but no bleeding anywhere. All other wounds are nearly invisible. He moved to the water line at 1059 and entered the water. He logged in the area for a bit, but began moving away at 1119. I lost him at 1023.

Gayle called a 0821 with the report of an animal doing 8/9 minute dives at Spitting Cave. Unfortunately, photos provided nothing with which to ID the animal.

At 0935 I found Nani (RK60) snoozin’ on the water front rocks 40 ft left of Seal Rock Inlet.

At 1314 posse member Maili called with the report of an animal just hauling out to the Blowhole end of Sandy Beach. As I was humping the stuff down from the parking lot at 1329 the animal departed according to Maili. I never saw it. There is zero doubt in my mind that it was Buster but ????

I immediately relocated to the Blowhole Lookout, and at 1350 found Buster (RV08) doing 6 minute dives. At 1643 I found Buster (RV08) hauled out at the Blowhole end of Sandy Beach. I cordoned him off . Buster was gone at 1900. We picked up the stuff and called it a day.

At 0645 Team Billand reported Pohaku (RO28) for her 2nd day at Secret Beach, KoOlina. Thanks to Carrie, Sammy & a new volunteer for the help. Carrie advised that Pohaku had departed at 1230.

Colleen called at 0900 to advise that Rocky RH58) was still at Kaimana Beach. Benny was not there. Colleen advised that she got just a quick glimpse of a smallish animal just departing just as she arrived, but there was no time for anything to be done. Dana called at 1003 to advise that Rocky had departed.

Val Bloy sent shots last night of KC (RK28), and Rocky’s girl , RF58&Friend, on Kauai. The KC news was much appreciated. Val said she has been hangin’ in the area for about a week. This is the first I’ve seen of her since the loss of her pup. She has obviously dumped her transmitter. Now it remains to be seen when of if she’ll return to Oahu. She appears to be starting her molt.

The shots of RF58 & R0HY are about as warm & fuzzy as anything could possible be. Thanks Val !!!

Ocean Safety called at 1606 with the report of an animal near LG stand #2H in Waikiki. Dana notified. Awaiting further info.
